The Environmental Law Institute (ELI), a non-profit organization headquartered in Washington, DC, is the leading center of environmental law research, policy, analysis, and training in the United States. Founded in 1969, ELI plays a pivotal role in the evolution of environmental law, management, and policy both in the United States and abroad. Support for the Institute comes from a mix of law firm, corporate, government, academic, and individual members as well as grants from private foundations, companies, and government agencies.
ELI seeks a person with exceptional organizational skills to simultaneously provide direct support to the HR & Office Managers, as well as back-up support to the President, and Development team.
Specific responsibilities include:
• Oversee operational procedures such as approving and processing invoices, coordinating with supply/service vendors, ordering supplies and equipment, maintaining office-wide calendars, liaising between departments, outlining and enforcing company policies, and provide back-up support to the receptionist
• Assist HR staff in processing confidential paperwork and updating personnel database and records, on-boarding personnel, and maintaining benefit provider manuals and forms
• Independently manage website and blog and provide administrative support for sister organization, the American College of Environmental Lawyers (ACOEL). Update website content, maintain contact database, format and post blogs written by members, facilitate relationship with web design vendor, help coordinate Annual Meeting, draft memos, answer phones and email for 180+ membership
• Assist with coordinating and executing event logistics for semi-annual Board meetings and dinners and for ELI’s annual fundraising dinner. Responsible for preparing Board meeting books; managing guest lists and seating arrangements; selecting venues, menus, and décor; and overseeing on-site set up.
The Administrative and Human Resources Coordinator reports to ELI’s Executive Assistant/Office Manager.
The ideal candidate for this position will have: (1) exceptional organizational skills; (2) experience administering websites, familiarity with blogs; (3) basic HR knowledge; (3) significant attention to detail; (5) the ability to manage several tasks with limited supervision; and (6) event management experience. Three years of prior office administration experience is highly desirable.
Compensation and Benefits: $35,000-40,000, depending upon experience, with excellent benefits.
